The Night Before

We set out in less than four hours and, although Edwin is snoozing beside me, I can’t quiet my mind enough to sleep. I’m running over lists in my mind, checking and double checking, occasionally jumping out of bed to add something else to a physical list of any remaining items we need to cover in the morning. But our bags are (somewhat heavily) packed and we are so ready to go.

We spent the last two weeks cramming in as much time with family and friends as possible – barbeques, buying the love of our nieces and nephews with ice cream, send-off parties, Mother’s Day celebrations, and an amazing wedding for great friends. There have been several tough and tearful farewells but we’ll be coming home in no time armed with awesome stories and probably really unfortunate sock tans.  No one do anything cool until we get back.

This should make for a good comparison photo a few weeks from now when we're grizzled and grimy from the trail. Edwin's been working on his mountain man beard for weeks, so we're really halfway there already.
